Future Active and Responsible Citizens: Practice Your Solidarity

During Student Learning Activity (SLA)

After watching a movie made by Polish students and a presentation made by Croatian students, write comments answering the questions:
What differences in first aid-practices have you noticed compared to practices in your country? Describe the process.

Comments

  1. In Croatia not all firefighters are frofessional, many of them are volounteers. You can volounteer as a firefighter when you are a teenager and help them when the help is needed. Firefighters are mostly needed during summer.
There are many accidents on the sea so there is Rescue at the sea service. It's the tourists who mostly need it because they get lost at the sea or if there is a shipwreck.
In Croatia we also have Mountain rescue service, they help and save people who get los tor injured in the mountains.
We usualy learn first aid while taking driving lessons of if we join some certain clubs in school, not many do that.
There are a loto f people who donate blood in Croatia, you cant donate it if you are younger than 18. After donating blood we don't get a chocolate but a sandwich or some other type of a meal.

  2. International emergency number is 112, but in Croatia we also have special first aid number and it’s 194. Other important numbers in Croatia are 192 for police, 193 for firefighters and 195 for rescue at sea. It’s very important to have a lot of firefighters in Croatia in summer because we have many landscapes, so that’s why we have many volunteers. We have Croatian Mountain Rescue Service and they save people when they get lost or injured in the mountains. One of the things we are most proud of is our sea. Sometimes things like a shipwreck or a windsurfer losing control can happen so that’s why we have rescue at sea. Most people didn't have any subject about first aid in primary school or in high school. First aid it's highly important because it is one of the most important skills in the world.

  3. Croatia has few emergency numbers. 112 is universal number for emergencies. 192 is for police, 193 is for firefighters, 194 is for ambulance and 195 is for rescue at sea. Some cities have firefighter trainings where people can volunteer. Most of them are children and teenagers. Firefighter volunteers are very important, especially in Dalmacija, where 70-90% of all fires happen, mostly in summer.
When people have accidents on sea, they call sea rescue service. When people get lost and injured in the mountains, they call Croatian Mountain Rescue Service. Each year few accidents occure in the mountains and mountain rages. Almost all of them are tourists who are not familiar with environment.
In some schools and school clubs they teach you how to help people in distress. Most of people in Croatia haven't done that. We are required to learn how to preform CPR when taking driving lessions.
Blood donations - people can donate their blood if they are healty and if they are 18+ and at least 55 kg.

  4. Many big cities have professional firefighters, but there are also many volunteers. Mostly teenagers. They are very important in Croatia.

We also have Croatian Mountain Rescue Service. They help people, mostly tourists, who got injured or lost in the mountains.

Another helpful Service of Croatia in rescue at sea. They are very useful when there's an accident like a shipwreck.

The only way to learn how to help people is joining certain clubs at school, but not all schools have that. There they learn how to preform CPR or help in accidents.

  5. Croatian emergency numbers are 112 , it is an universal number for emergencies. 192 is for police. 193 for firefighters and 194 is for ambulance . Lastly 195 is for rescue at sea.
Not all our firefighters are professional, there are many volunteers . You can join volunteer firefighters as a teenager . Firefighters are very important in Croatia, especially in summer, when there is a lot of wildfires. We also have Croatian Mountain Rescue Service . They save people when they get lost or injured in the mountains. Especially tourists which often go exploring places witch they are not familiar with . Another Service that is typical of Croatia in rescue at sea. When there is an accident at the sea they are very helpful . You can learn how to help people in need only if you join a certain club in schools. We learn how to perform CPR or help people in a car accident only when taking driving lessons. Blood donation - many people donate blood in Croatia , to help ones in need . They also get sandwich instead of chocolate .

  6. In Croatia many people donate blood, but you need to be 18 or older to donate it and have at least 55 kg. Also in Croatia you don't get chocolate, you get a sandwich.
In Croatia you can learn how to help people in distress only if you join a certain club in schools. Most of us haven’t done that.We learn how to perform CPR or help people in a car accident only when taking driving lessons. I really like this video because it is very creative and very useful. 7. Emergency numbers are very important, and here in Croatia we have a few of them. The universal number for emergencies is 112. 192 is police emergency number and 193 is for firefighters. Speaking of firefighters, we find it very important that many firefighters are volunteers, and that they usually volunteer in Dalmacija, where most fires happen.
The other two numbers we have left are 194 (ambulance) and 195 (rescue at sea). Croatian Mountain Rescue Service is usually really helpful when tourists come explore the beautiful Croatian mountains, but are not quite familiar with them, and they quickly get lost and/or hurt.
When it comes to first aid-practices, they are not usually taught in schools. If you are taking driving lessions, you must learn how to preform CPR. And if you want to donate blood, you have to be 18 or older to do so. It's interesting that when you go donate blood in Croatia, they give you in return some juice, candy bar or even a sandwich. :)

  8. One of the differences is that Croatia has special numbers, besides 112, for other emergency services. And for example there is a special number you call when you need emergency medical service which is 194. You call that number when life is seriously endangered. You can still call 112 if you need medical service and they will redirect your call to it. Also, besides police, ambulance and firefighters, Croatia has a Mountain Rescue Service. These are the people that help you if you are endangered, injured or lost on a mountain. The last difference I noticed is that not in every school in Croatia there is a first aid education. Some schools have it, but it's not a requirement to take it.

  9. Here in Croatia there are several numbers that you can call when you're in distress. The first of them being 112, which is used to contact emergency services. There are also 194, 193 and 192 used by the ambulance, the firefighters and the police, respectively. Because Croatia is a country with a big coastline we also have the Rescue at Sea service, which is usually contacted when people get lost at sea or when there's some kind of an accident, their number is 195. There's another service that doesn't have a number that you can call, but is still very active in Croatia. The service I'm talking about is called The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service which operates when people get lost or hurt in the mountains.

In Croatia most people learn how to give first aid once that they're getting their drivers licence, they learn it then because they can't get their licence without doing a first aid test. Some elementary schools have first aid classes, but most don't.

I loved the video from Poland, especially the acting skills of the actors. ;)

Firefighters in Croatia are not necessarily proffesional, there are also a lot of volunteers. A teenager can volunteer to join firefighters and they are especially important in summer.

Along with firefighters, we also have Croatian Mountain Rescue and rescue at sea.

Blood donation is also common in Croatia, although we don't get a chocolate, we get a sandwich.

Anyway, I enjoyed the movie, good job!

  11. Everyone can learn how to help people in distress, even you can do it only by joining a certain club in schools. We learn how to perform CPR and help people in a car accident. You can even join volunteer firefighters as a teenager as well and practice so when needed you can help. Firefighters are very important in Croatia, especially in summer. We also have Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, they save people when they get lost or injured in the mountains. Another Service that is typical of Croatia in rescue at sea. Vida Žunić, Croatia

  12. Precious blood is of vital importance. Many people in Croatia approach voluntary blood donation. You can become that too, if you are healthy, older than 18 and weighing more than 55 kg. You were hoping for chocolate ?, you will get a sandwich in Croatia. It costs you nothing, and it means life to another.

If you are brave, responsible and do not mind the heat, become a volunteer Croatian firefighter. Summer fires are a common occurrence every year so sometimes you spend your vacation in the field instead of at sea. :)

Another Service that is typical of Croatia is Croatian Mountain Rescue Service. They save people when they get lost or injured in the mountains.

  14. We have 4 emergency numbers in Poland: general 112, ambulance 999, police 997, fire brigade 998. If someone needs help, you must help him. The worst thing is when people stand and look instead of helping.

There are also 997, 998 and 999 used respectively by the ambulance police, firefighters. In Poland, most people learn to provide first aid at school, it is very necessary because then we are able to save someone's life.

  17. In Poland we have a few emergency numbers. 112 is universal number . 999 is for ambulance (if someone need a medical emergency). 998 is for firefighters (call if is fire or when is road accident). 997 is for police( call if accident, theft, crime, if someone was missing etc.) .
We have also a numbers for energy emergancy 991( in emergancy related to electricity), water emergancy 994(in emergancy related to water) , gas emergancy 992 ( in emergancy related to gas).

Like most European countries, Poland has its central blood donation system. We can't donate blood if we are under 18.

In our schools from elementary to high schools we have lessons about firs aid with paramedics. In schools we have fire extinguishers and first-aid kits.

  18. In Poland, number 112 is a universal number for emergencies. There are also other numbers: 997 (police), 998 (firefighters), 984 or 601 100 100 (rescue over the water), 999(ambulance).
When we witness an accident, let's react immediately, call for help and try to provide it ourselves, because the first minutes are the most important. We shouldn't take photos and record films during such a situation because then we make work difficult for rescuers and expose the injured person to loss of life or health and reduce the chances of their survival
First aid training is conducted once in a while in schools and during festivals there is a tent with a phantom and rescuers who teach CPR.
However, most often people gain knowledge during the driving course.

  19. There is an organization in Poland and all over the world that trains people of all ages on first aid, it is the Polish Red Cross. There are trainings and competitions organized in which I participated with high achievements and I remember it fondly. For people with passion, there is also an organization of Hospitallers who volunteer to save lives. They have their own equipment, including ambulances, often appear as security at large gatherings. It is a great passion that is worth continuing, because there is nothing more valuable than human life.

  23. In Poland, the main emergency number is 112 (police-997, medical assistance-999, fire brigade-998). Remember that help can save your life. Do not be indifferent. If we witness an accident, let's call 112, the services will come to help the injured. If we see a fire, call 998 directly because it will speed up direct help from the fire brigade.

Determining the potential disaster areas. And helping the disaster victims. They are visiting schools and giving informations about disasters.
